Inspired by Japanese design, the Pagoda Table by designer Lloyd Stacey shows why simple and honest can be great adjectives.
Interested in form and structure, Lloyd Stacey has worked with one of this century’s most popular furniture-making materials, laminated plywood. Taking inspiration from familiar mid-century classics, as well as directly from Sori Yaniagi’s sublime Butterfly Stool, Stacey has applied bentwood into a new, dynamic form.
The Pagoda Table, developed to take advantage of the capacity of unassuming materials to metamorphose into effortless sophistication, is literally transformative. Its laminated birch plywood base is paired with a Corian tray which seamlessly blends with the body of the table, melding into one inclusive form. When reversed on the, the tray reshapes the simple curve of the table into a Pagoda-like form, harkening back to the designer’s muse, the aesthetics of the East. Multi-functional, integrated design makes the Pagoda Table a pleasantly useful addition to any interior.
